While similar to the Newell Bridge and Railway Company structure at the north end of East Liverpool, see the flicker link below, and notice that the piers are taller on the Chester Bridge, the towers have caps to support the cables, and the approaches slope on the Chester Bridge and not on the Newell Bridge. http://www.flickr.com/photos/80651083@N00/219583002/ The postcard showing the Chester Bridge shows a single truck car of the East Liverpool Traction and Light Company, which was later rolled into the Steubenville, East Liverpool and Beaver Valley Traction Company. Wikipedia indicates that the Chester, West Virginia - East Liverpool, Ohio bridge was built in 1897 and replaced in 1977 by a newer structure much more suitable to modern traffic demands of US route 30. As an aside, the Newell Bridge and Railway Company still owns the other bridge. Some of you may know the name Fiestaware or Fiesta dinner plates, saucers, cups, etc. They are manufacturered by Homer Laughlin China Company of Newell, West Virginia. Homer-Laughlin built a trolley line to get its workers to the plant. It ran all the way from East Liverpool on the Ohio side of the river. And the trolleys ran over the company-owned bridge. The trolleys quit about 1937 but if you buy a round trip or commuting ticket book on the Newell Bridge today, it still reads Newell Bridge and Railway Company. I'm sending a copy of this to Frank as a warning in case any of you should drop him a note. http://www.hlchina.com/
